Teacher gift sets

Add water to a cake pan and some
food coloring to soak the coffee filters in

Hi all! Just wanted to show you the older boys teacher gifts for the year. I have always done pencil bouquets and this year I did also, but I usually I make the flowers with die cut petals, like I did last year. You can see here. This year, I decided to do something a little different. I'd been seeing these tutorials online for making paper roses out of coffee filters. I dyed them in a cake pan with some yellow food coloring and water, when they were done, I added some pink food coloring to the centers of a few while still wet, and then let them dry.
Drying filters with pink color added

Close up on flower.
When they were dry, I folded each one into eighths and cut the bottom off and cut the folded piece into a petal shape (think half a heart) then I cut the top section with a wavy top. Then I opened them up and cut each ring into pieces, and started wrapping them around the pencil piece by piece, taping each one firmly to the pencil with scotch tape. When I was satisfied with the fullness of the roses, I wrapped some glittery paper trim around the base of the flowers to hide the tape. Then tied a ribbon around that and knotted it. For the other pencils, I created one large banner pencil with a scrap of paper and a big glittery sticker and I added a "one of a kind" sticker to that as well. The last 2 pencils, I tied scraps of ribbon around and tied a bow on the ribbon with some orange bakers twine. I added a big bow with button embellishment to the pail, which was from the dollar section at Target. I used M&M's in the pails to make the pencils stand up.

I wanted the cards to be the same color scheme, and I only had one teacher card left after giving all of Ev's teachers their cards. So I pulled some fun paper from a die-cut card pad and layered it up with some fun stamped scraps in a school theme. I embellished with some epoxy stickers, some large rick rack and another glittery flower sticker. These are large cards, 6" square. Not very traditional school colors, but I think they turned out pretty fun! :)

DON'T FORGET about the awesome SMASH book giveaway I have going on. The post is here to enter the drawing! :)

I hope you are having a great week!

Bright and Summery (colourQ #87)

Hi there all! I hope you are having a great day back to the grind after the long weekend. I, for one, am hoping to be more productive today than I was all weekend! :) My kids have another 4 days until they are off for summer break, so it's just me and Ev, and I'm **hoping** that means I'll accomplish something... (hey, a girl can dream, right?)

Before I get too far into the post, I want to remind you of my BLOG CANDY giveaway going on right now. You have from now until June 12 to enter. Go to this post to see all the details and hear about the brand-new, super-cool SMASH book I am giving away!

So, I know (and if you visit the blog regularly, you know, too!) that warm colors are typically NOT my thing. BUT, I really love this bright, fun color combo, tempered with the brown and white. It's so fresh and summery, just the thing I was needing. :) Go to colourQ to see all the FAB samples my DT buds and Arielle have, and play along! If you leave a comment here I'll be sure to come by and check and comment on your submission!

So, my card. I used a technique I haven't used in a while. For that main panel, I stamped a glossy white piece of cardstock with my images using VersaMark (watermark) ink. I had arranged my clear stamps on a large block, to make a background stamp. Then I inked up my brayer with the Curry, Pumpkin, and Melon shades of ink. Sort of a striped effect, like you used to get with a Spectrum pad (and, if you know what a Spectrum Pad is, let's just talk about how long we've been stamping... LOL). Then I brayered over the stamped glossy cardstock, rolling over several times, and the VersaMark stamped images resist the dye ink. Pretty cool, huh? I punched a large circle in the orange and attached it to the corner, cutting off the overhang. I stamped my sentiment in brown on white cardstock and punched it out in a circle shape. I punched a Melon scalloped circle as well and layered the 2. I taped down some wide brown rick rack and a pink glittered rick rack piece, before attaching the sentiment with 3D dots. Finally I added a layered sticker and a layered button embellishment I made. The front panel went onto a mat in the Curry color, and then onto a Suede card base.

Well, a fun, bright, summery card for ya today. Kind of reminds me of a sunset. I hope you like it & I hope you'll play along with us at colourQ this week! :) Have a stellar day!

-Noelle

supply list: stamps: Inkadinkado; layered sticker and glittered rick rack: K&Company; punches: EK Success. solid cardstock, ink, buttons, and twine: Stampin' Up!

DUST IT OFF!: That layered sticker has been around for awhile, With having 3 boys I don't use flower stickers when I scrap very often. I'll have to remember to pull them out for other cards!

Commissioned Pages

Hey there! I had an order for some custom pages last week, and I thought you might like to see! One of Evan's teachers ordered these as a retirement gift for a friend of hers. She gave me the titles she wanted and then I had free rein, kinda fun! :)

As a reminder, I am currently running a blog candy giveaway for a COOL, new K&Company SMASH book! You can check that out and sign up to win here.

These first ones are my faves of the 6. I love the bright colors and the happy feel. I made custom pockets, with journaling cards inside, I did one page for each child, making one page more "girly" and the other more for a boy. Both the "a" and the "e" in the word "Charlie" were completely the wrong colors, so I covered them with the same teal paper I was using in the layout and stamped them with a denim stamp in teal ink. Fun, huh? These pages hold 4 4x6 pics.

supply list: solid cardstock, ink and felt flowers: SU!; stickers: Cosmo Cricket; punch: EK Success; chipboard letters & tab stickers: K&Company & unknown; red sticker letters: BasicGrey; dotted paper: Echo Park; chipboard buttons: love, elsie; mini stamps: Michaels generic

These next ones, I decided on the theme of the butterfly to signify change for retirement. I had been given themes that were to be incorporated on the page and I used punched butterflies with the themes on them. Also, this quote was given to me by the customer. I used my multiple font trick and printed it out on the computer. These pages hold 1 5x7 pic and 4 3 1/2x5 pics.

supply list: stamps: SU!; punches: EK Success for SU!; letter stickers: Cosmo Cricket; papers: MME

These last 2 were about a cruise to Alaska. I didn't have much in a cruise theme, so I decided to focus on the colors and some cute accents, and I did add a boat sticker to a handmade tag, as well. I also found some cool, large travel themed tags in my stash to use for journaling cards. I had one canvas pocket in my stash that I embellished and another pocket I made from 2 Top Note die pieces. These pages holds 6 4x6 pics.

supply list: patterned papers: DCWV, boat sticker: Sticko; punches: EK Success; letters: Cricut; top Note die: Sizzix for SU!; canvas pocket, travel tags and vellum envelope: unkown

Well, I hope you like these and I also hope my customer likes them. i hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day! I know we sure did :) Have a great day!

Forget your troubles, c'mon get happy! (MOJO192 & Chevron Challenge)

Hi there! So very sorry it's been so many days between posts, it's been a truly exhausting week! So, I wanted to make a VERY happy card today since I needed to brighten up my day. I LOVED this awesome sketch over at Mojo Monday this week and decided it would be just the think to get MY mojo running again! Since it's also got this SWEET chevron paper on it, I'll also put it up over at the Moxie Fab World Chevron Chic challenge.

This card came together sort of backwards for me. Usually I pick my paper first and then, stamps, solid cardstock etc. But this card started with the rainbow. I stamped it on white cardstock and colored with markers. Then I coated the colored part with some dimensional glaze to make it shiny. I did the blue panel next and I heat embossed some clouds on there with white craft ink and clear EP. Then I made the scalloped circle piece. I die cut 3 clouds from blue felt and stitched the whole thing together with a red glittery button and some yellow baker's twine. At this point, I FINALLY began to see I'd need some patterned paper on this card. I found this SU! chevron stripe in my stash, and it went so well with the fun feel I wanted for this card. Final steps were the tag and some gems and more twine. I hope you like it, it DID brighten my day! :)
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I am NOT busy for once so I'll be back soon to show you some more fun things! -Noelle

supply list: stamps: Unity and Verve; paper and solid cardstock: SU!; tag and markers: SU!; cloud die: MFT; red button: American Crafts; bakers twine: Jillibean Soup; red gems: Martha Stewart Crafts; punches: EK Success

DUST IT OFF!: That tag has got to be pushing 10 years old! I think it was part of a hostess gift from the very first SU! party I ever hosted. LOL!

Silly Old Bear (Winnie the Pooh scrapbook page CQC#86)

Hi there! Here is my page for this week's colourQ! FUN color combo this week, two shades of yellow, brown, and red. I thought the colors in this pic really worked well with the challenge colors. You may have noticed I like to use borders a lot in my page designs. The reason for that is that usually I like to fit several photos on each page, even though that's not the case here today. Like many of you, I usually scrap in 4x6 pics (actually, slightly smaller than that, more deets are below...) I have found through the years that having much of the design of the page coming in on borders, really frees up space for pics. Here's some previous examples from older posts: Old SacramentoEaster Eggs, and some of the Disney Layouts. Since I don't like to crop my photos that much, a border page usually insures I can get 4-5 photos per page or 8-10 per layout. Besides, I tend to mirror a lot in my designs as well, and borders are so easy to mirror, just make a matching strip for the other page and, voila! You are done :)

So, what I was alluding to above, about the pic size. next time you are ordering prints, if you get the option to switch to "True Digital" prints instead of 4x6, give it a shot! True Digital just means that it is EXACTLY the shot you took. To fit a digital print into a 4x6 format it has to be slightly cropped. You may have noticed this when you pick up your pics, that they are not quite the same as they look on your computer, a bit more zoomed in and maybe even off center. True Digital prints are also slightly smaller which makes them EXCELLENT for scrapbooking, here's why: You can fit six 4x6 pics on a 12" page, but there will not be even a smidgen of an inch left between the photos. Since True digital are slightly smaller, there's a bit of your paper peeking out, even if you do put 6 pics per page. Also, when it comes to matting your photos, TD is awesome because you can mat FOUR pics off of a 8 1/2 x11 sheet pf cardstock. When using 4x6 prints you can only mat 2 from a sheet that size. SO, check it out next time you get your prints done. I always get mine from Walgreens.

Ok, blah, blah, enough of my yammering onto THIS page! :) This pic was from our trip to WDW last fall. This pic was taken at the Animal Kingdom park and it's just a great pic of all 3 boys, I love it. :) I decided to make the title "Silly Old Bear" since that is what Christopher Robin calls Pooh. I created a "circusy" fun border title strip with some yellow dotted paper, a red and white border sticker, a wavy border sticker (that one almost looks like a helix...) and a shaped strip cut off the bottom of a piece of DP. I used different stickers to make up the title, using the Mickey Mouse ones for the word "Bear." I wanted the page to evoke a sense of fun and have a bit of Disney on there, but not be too OVERTLY Disney, if you know what I mean. I matted my 5x7 pic in both shades of yellow and red. To the right I added a large sticker I used for journaling, a Pooh sticker and another sticker that says "Hugging the characters." I finished off with a few colored epoxy stickers and the page was done. I was glad to be following the challenge colors, I don't know if I would have picked a brown background otherwise and I LOVE the way that looks with this photo, really love that... Gotta get cracking on a companion page, hopefully SOON! We are in our last few weeks of school and as such, it's been just a little crazy around here. To top it off, today I woke up with a sore throat! UGH! I hope YOU are having a great week, though. :) I'll "see" you soon! -Noelle

supply list: paper: SU!; stickers: Recollections; helix sticker: Basic Gray; shaped border strip: sassafrass lass; colored epoxy stickers, Pooh sticker, and Disney alphabet stickers: EK Success

Owly Retirement Party!

Hi all! We had the retirement party for my Mom today, and I wanted to show you some of the goodies I made for it. There was an invitation for the party and a card for my Mom in previous posts, but I'll add the pics and link you back at the bottom, so you can see ALL the goods here on this one post.
First, we had these favors. I've never made these little sour cream containers before, but they were really cute and easy, so I'll definitely do it again:)

A close up shot of a few of the favors, there was no real color scheme,
so I just used assorted brights and brown papers to make
these sweet little containers. Each one started out as a 4x6" pice of paper,
so you can get 6 from each piece of 12" DP.

My sister helped me put this banner together. I used my Cricut and SCAL software with a FREE svg banner file! :) No real color scheme for the party, as aforementioned, but just used a variety of OLD DP I had around. Shelley helped me by punching and assembling the nine owls :)

The banner my sister helped me put together, the banner pieces
were cut on the Cricut with SCAL files and I just used a variety of old
papers to make this. My sis, Shelley, assembled all the owls.

You can see the owls up close on this as well as the
(kind of obnoxious, but FUN) owl print ribbon.

These next 2 are from previous posts, but I just wanted you to see the whole thing, all the related projects, too. I went with the owls for the invitation, because it seemed fun and I didn't have any CLUE what themes were good for a retirement party, but now I'm so glad I used owls, I think it turned out adorable! Not going to do a supply list here, too lengthy, but if you have any questions, leave a comment here with your question, and I'll get back to you in a jiffy! My "DUST IT OFF" for this post is patterned papers. I used so many OLD pieces of DP on this project, felt great to use it up! :)

Owl of Us (one year blogoversary!)

Hi there! I wanted to share something today because it is my one year "blogoversary" LOL. One year ago, I didn't even know the word "blogoversary" existed! I have to say, the last year has been such a wonderful journey. When I started, I had no clue what fun this would be, what an amazing community I was joining and what a big part of my life this would become. But, here I am: one year, 213 posts, and almost 15,000 hits later. Clearly, I am hooked! A HUGE thank YOU to all of you who follow and those who stop by, too.

So, my card today is for my Mom's retirement, which is coming up. You may remember the invitations I made for the party here. So, the theme is owls, and I had this cute gift bag I bought at Target and I wanted to mimic the bag. This is a large card 5"x7" I punched some large circles in the colors from the bag. I used the owl punch I have (which, truly, I've only used a handful of times) and punched owls in colors to match the circles, and then I just built the little owls one at a time, until they were all made up. I drew the pupils of the eyes on last, so I could make some of them look at each other, etc. I used the sentiment from one of my favorite retired SU! stamp sets "Owl Together Now." I popped up the end of the sentiment banner with a 3D dot and bent it a little in the middle to give it some movement. I added a red flocked heart brad to the right side of the banner. The card took a bit more time than some, just because it took some time to "build" 12 owls. But, I love it and I think my Mom will too. I decorated the inside with some leftover scraps.

Well, that is it for me today! I'm going to be making some decorations and favors for the party soon, so I'll be back later this week to show you what I come up with. Also, there is a super-cute page coming up for colourQ on Tuesday, I can't wait to show you :) I will also be giving away some blog candy soon to commemorate this milestone.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
-Noelle

Thinking of You (colourQ #85)

Hi there! I FINALLY got my card done for colourQ this week. Don't you think these colors are a little tough? I struggled with them FOR SURE! I think it was the combo of the orange and then I always feel weird about mixing brown and gray. Anyway, the card turned out better than I expected, LOL! But that is the wonderful thing about challenges is that you push yourself as an artist. So, if you also feel a little intimidated by this combo, please give it a shot and post it! If you comment on this post, I'll be sure to come and check it out! :) I was also SO impressed with the projects my DT buds came up with this week, so you should at least pop by and check it out!

So, my card... I stamped the white panel in the challenge colors. I created the sentiment by stamping on Basic Gray cardstock in clear (VersaMark) ink and heat embossing with clear powder. I used Kraft instead of Sahara Sand, because I do not have Sahara Sand. The vellum envelope was a last minute decision and I think that gives the card a soft edge that I like as well as the addition of the ruffled ribbons. All in all, a feminine card. I hope you like it!

This week has been BEYOND insanely busy. Both my hubby and I have family in from out-of-state and my weekend is packed-to-the-gills FULL! So, I am taking a little break for the next few days, but I hope to have some little goodie for you to look at on Saturday, because that is my one year blog anniversary! Have a wonderful weekend! :)

-Noelle

supply list: cardstock, brads, and ink:SU!; stamps: Inakdinkado; ruffled ribbon: The Paper Studio; vellum envelope: unknown

DUST IT OFF!: That vellum envelope is so old, but I love the way it looks on this card:)

Weekend Cards

Happy weekend, all! We have a lot going on tomorrow, but the only thing I had going on today was the 5K for my running club, and then it got called off because of the rain (pouring here!) and... I have to admit, I was a wee bit happy! LOL, I just did a 5K two weeks ago, and though I can (always) use the exercise, I was really dreading being out on this cold, damp day. Where oh where has my CO sunshine gone? It keeps teasing me, peeking out every few days and then hiding again, I am SO ready for summer! :)  Bring on the sunshine, pool, and the iced tea!

The first card I made for a family friend who is taking his First Communion tomorrow. The family are very close friends of ours and I am so excited to see him take this big milestone step tomorrow and the subsequent party! It's bound to be a good time, that's for sure! The card is made from some pretty Unity stamps and a cool wood piece that I had been hoarding, LOL. I tried to make it appropriate for an 8 year old boy by the masculine colors and adding the sentiment inside "DUDE, congrats!"

The second card is just for fun. I used this cute cake stamp from Inkadinkado. I did what you've seen me do before and stacked the cake right up, to make a cake tower. I picked colors that would relate to actual cake flavors. Top to bottom the flavors are: vanilla, marble, pistachio, strawberry, white, lemon, and chocolate. At the bottom I punched an oval for a "plate" I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of ivory cardstock and hand cut it. I finished the card off with a border punched strip, and a super fancy cabochon. Lots of girly flowers and colors on this card! It will be a fun one to save for a girlfriend.

Well, that is it for me! Busy busy week ahead! Lots of out of town visitors and social events, etc. Just gotta keep going! I'll try and pop in with a fun challenge or 2! Have a great week!

Jolly Old St. Nick! (JB20)

Hi there! I wanted to get this post done (quickly!) as my kids will be home soon and I still have a TON of stuff to get done, LOL. But when I saw the prompt this week over at Jingle Belles, I knew I wanted to submit this card (yet another Paper Crafts reject, so it was all made, and all I had to do was the post!) I LOVE this stamp, and the prompt this week is the fat man in the red suit himself (or, in my case, in the purple hat!) I tried to do non-traditional colors on this card, hence the purple, brown and green. This is one of my fave Christmas stamps ever, I just love this vintage look Santa :) Here is one of my fave Christmas cards from last year, created with the same stamp. I made a star bow and did some punching and stamping for the center of that bow as an accent, all in all, a fun card, I hope you like it, too! :)  Have a wonderful weekend!

-Noelle

supply list: solid cardstock, stamp, ink, ribbon, and glitter:SU!; patterned paper: MME; punches: MSC and EKS; die: Spellbinders; markers: Copic; purple gems, mini pearls, and Dec. 25 stamp from Inkadinkado.

Well, Hello there! (TCPTUES)

Hey there! I haven't gotten a chance to play at TCPTUES in a few weeks, so I thought I'd give this color combo a go this week. Truly, I NEVER would have dreamed of putting these 3 colors together in a million years, but I really liked the way this turned out, so it may end up being one to revisit! I decided to make a long card, and, when I cut it, I made a mistake and ended up with the front side an inch shorter than the back, LOL! Have you ever done that? Well, I decided to turn it into what I used to tell folks was a "happy accident" when I taught classes & incorporate that into the design.
I pulled out my new Field of Pinwheels set and an awesome K&Company Sweet Nectar cardmaking pad. I love these pads! The edge is die cut and you can just fold them in half to make a cool card, but I instead cut the decorative edge off here and used it on the side, the rest of the paper covered the front and I used a scrap from it to cut the cloud. i stamped my bunny down on white cardstock and colored him with Copics. I used a glue pen and some white flocking powder for his "cottontail."  I die cut the image with a nestabilities die and ended up folding the left side around the back of the card. Inside the card I used an old border sticker since you could see that edge.
At the bottom I thought pinwheels would be the perfect accent. TCP has a darling pinwheel die, but I don't have that so I punched some squares from Basic Gray cardstock with 1 1/4" square punch and cut in from each corner on the diagonal. Then I folded every other corner in towards the center and finished off with a brad. There is also a button threaded with green ribbon in the UL hand corner of the card. Well, that's it for me today! I hope you like my card:) I hope to be back tomorrow or Friday with something else fun to show you! Thanks for stopping by:)

-Noelle

supply list: stamps: TCP; die cut cardmaking pad and patterned green paper: K&Company; dies: MFT and Spellbinders; markers: Copic; border sticker and solid cardstock:SU!; white flocking powder and glue pen: Inkadinkado; square punch: EK Success

DUST IT OFF!: That border sticker is from a scrap kit that's several years old. Remember also, if you don't have a pinwheel die, they are easy to make with your trusty square punches, which you probably already have:)

My How You've Grown (MFTWSC19)

Hey there! I hope you all are having a great week so far. I was THRIILED and excited to see my studio space featured over at Creating Keepsakes Blog yesterday! Check it out if you get time! :) I have about a dozen challenges that are calling my name this week.... Ah, if only I had the time to do them all! This looked to be a super fun sketch this week over at My Favorite Things, so I decided to give it a go. MFT stamps are not required to play, but I try to focus on the products from the challenge site whenever possible. I hardly have any MFT stamps, just a very few sets and not much to choose from, so that presented a bit of a challenge in and of itself. I liked the "My How You've Grown" sentiment from the stamp set of the same name. But, I didn't want to make a baby card, so for the image I decided to focus on my MFT dies, of which I have several.

I LOOOOVE this tree die from there. I used the cloud die to create the "leaves" on the tree and added in some leaves and buttons for fun. I used a nestabilities die for the shape the tree is on, and then used the larger nesting die for the navy blue frame, but when it came time to put the card together, the frame piece was too large, so I ended up cutting two blue from the same size as the original size I have the tree on and splitting them apart, layering them behind the tree to get the frame effect I was going for without all the bulk. I die cut the jumbo rick rack piece to go behind the sentiment for a fun look. Finally for the banner, I used an old rounded tag punch I have. I'll spare you my complaining about how I don't have a banner die, today anyway! ;) Besides, good to get some use from that old punch. I used some stickers for the "happy" and the "birthday" stamp is from Little Loveosaurus.

After I was done, I realized this is the same color scheme we are featuring this week over at colourQ!
So, I'll link this up over there, too:)

Well, I am OUTTA HERE, time for dinner, then baths and bed for my boys. have a stellar evening!

-Noelle

supply list: dies and stamps: MFT; punch: EK Success; patterned paper: MME, OA, and Cosmo Cricket;  other die: Spellbinders; letter stickers: Cosmo Cricket; Not Quite Navy inkpad and solid cardstock: SU!

DUST IT OFF!: That old rounded tag punch (Whale of A Punch, I'm going to say close to 10 years old, that one) works great for banners in a pinch!
