Fun with chipboard

Hi there paper crafting peeps! I wanted to share something I've been experimenting with these last few days. CHIPBOARD is back and it's hotter than ever! This is  a really good thing since I have a TON of it left over from 6-7 years ago when it came out the first time;) Papercrafting supplies are a lot like fashion in that trends come and go. Usually when an old trend comes back, there is a new spin on it, like leggings and tunics are back in right now, right? But have you noticed that the tunics are sleeker and more shaped? I bought one the other day and it has a nice shape to it, a waist in it, versus the super boxy or even trapeze tunics of the late 80s/early 90s. Such is the new chipboard trend, the NEW cool way to use chipboard is by texturizing it. Melody Ross has some awesome new tools for adding texture and life to your chipboard. I purchased these cool shaped chipboard pieces as well as the handles and two sets of texturizing heads (Birds and Iron Works) from her line by gcd Studio. The way to use the tools is by first WETTING the chipboard piece with a spray bottle. This is important and I didn't know this at first, I DID manage to get impressions into the chipboard without wetting it, but whoa, it's tough! Definitely worth it to wet it first, it makes it much softer and easier to take the impression. 

My card at the top is actually not done with the Melody Ross impression tools. I had an old metal letterpress set (ALSO from "back in the day") it's about as old as my chipboard! The set is almost like an old-school metal punch set, what you do is take each letter (each one is it's own metal piece, about 2-3" tall) and hammer it onto where you want the impression. I used to use it for metal tags and suede accents, but seeing the new chipboard tools gave me the idea to use it this way! I then coated the piece with red acrylic paint and then once it was dry used a very dry brush with robin's egg blue acrylic paint for an aged look. I did punch 2 holes on the left hand side of my card and threaded ribbon all the way through. The chipboard piece was cool and had a lacy sort of scalloped edge with a hole through every scallop. I took my ribbon and threaded it through all the holes. Some of my fave Melody Ross buttons, a bow, and some punched stamped images complete the vintage look.

On the accent in the middle I did the same thing as the one on the card, except I used 4-5 layers of paint and some Log Cabin Smooch Spritz. The bottom accent was only done with Glimmer Mist, and the impression tool. The Glimmer Mist actually wet the chipboard enough so I didn't need water. I am not sure where I will use these cool accents yet.... but I'm sure something will come up sooner or later! ;)

Cast Your Cares.... (MOJO179)

hi there! Here is one last challenge I wanted to squeeze in for this week, Mojo Monday 179. Great sketch and I have these pretty Verve Bible Verse stamps, you can check them out here. I have to say, in spite of my normal use of old items, I've got nothing old on this card! Ack! I bought that rose and that ribbon last summer, but those are the oldest things on here, whoops! I am IN LOVE with these new Stella & Rose papers from My Mind's Eye, simply STUNNING! They are so pretty I didn't even layer up my card base, I just used some of that pretty medallion printed cardstock, It has a cool zigzag pattern on the other side, you can see it on the inside of my card there. I used my new EK Success border punch that I got in my last prize package from the Spotted Canary. I really like it, I think it may become a new fave! I also dry embossed my Baja Breeze border strip with the houndstooth embossing folder. Fairly simple card construction here, nothing too fancy. I hope you like it! I am in love with this, I'm thinking I may make a series of these.

Making Tracks

Hi there! Here's one more card I made this afternoon, no challenges, just something I had been wanting to try. This was one of the sets I bought at The Cat's pajamas called "Joyride." I colored the bunny in Copics and paper pieced his scooter. I cut him out and mounted him onto a nested circles embellishment. I made a similar, smaller embellishment with the sentiment "Making Tracks." I border punched the card front with my fave edger punch and I put some decorative border strips on the inside of the card, so they peek outside the edge of the border punched right side. I saw this card over at Splitcoast today, and I thought the idea for the rhinestone headlight was too cute! I took that idea a bit further and added mini lights at the bottom as well and accented the rest of the card with rhinestones. I used my MFT rick rack die to cut an accent and I dry embossed that as well. The embellishment behind his head is actually covering up a mistake. I went to stamp the "beep beep" down and stupidly still had my "Make Tracks" stamp on the block, it left a grayish impression of those words all over the bunny's face and the blue circle, ACK! So I made that circle embellishment and pieced a new face over the old, I mean who wants a tattooed face bunny, right? He's not a gang member! lol;) In the end I actually think the extra circles actually added a nice touch to the card. 

Sometimes we all have to make tracks in our lives. I know that recently I have walked away from a situation that it was extremely necessary for me to move on from. Now if only I'd had a super-stylish-custom-painted-rhinestone-headlight scooter, right?

Like you a Latte (US #94 & Moxie Fab paper piecing challenge)

Hi guys! Here is a fun card I put together this morning for this week's Unscripted Sketches. I've been DYING to get this set ever since I saw this card over at Jenny Peterson's blog. I have a little red headed boy myself. And I gotta say today he is seeming even MORE "red" than usual! lol;) So, I TRIED to case Jenny and make his hair look real by coloring it first with a Stampin' Up! Really Rust pen and then using the Copics over that. I am actually wondering if Jenny used pencils instead. I may ask her, so I can know for sure! I paper pieced his outfit and I'm going to submit this for the paper piecing challenge at Moxie Fab World as well. I aways keep denim print paper around so I can give my characters "jeans." I thought this sketch really called for a patchwork of patterned papers, so that's what I used to create the blocks. The "piggyback" challenge at Unscripted Sketches is to use fabric, so I did die cut a cloud from felt as the base of my accent.  A bit of embellishing and it was good to go! Thanks for stopping by! For My Mom

Hi all! aren't you SO proud? And since you may have NO clue what I'm talking about, I'm talking about THREE posts in one day! YES! Definitely on a creative jag these last few days.... This card is for my MOM. She loves hot air balloons and always has:) She has also been very supportive lately and I really have needed her these last few weeks. I am so very blessed to have such a great Mom:) And.... (just in case she is reading this...) I love you Mom!

Ok, my card, this is for colourQ #73 (be sure to head over & check it out!) and a (new to me!) sketch challenge Get Sketchy #75.

Ok, so my card, I wanted to use these new stamps I bought recently from Unity. They are 2 different sets, you can check them out here. The first thing I did was that circle panel. I stamped the cloud background onto a scrap of Brocade Blue cardstock in Brilliant Blue ink. Then I matted it in Brilliant blue as well. I stamped the balloon down twice once on a Pear Pizzaz patterned piece of DSP and once on a Razzleberry piece. I paper pieced the balloon together and added a glittery brad at the top. I adhered the balloon to my circle panel, and added a die cut cloud to accent. For the sentiment I tried a new trend I've been noticing lately, and it fits right in with my "what's old is new again" ideas. VELLUM is making a comeback, and I keep seeing it used like this, little strips with sentiments on them or dry embossed strips, still allowing the rest of the design to show through. I love this look! The only problem with vellum is you need to heat emboss the ink on it, or it will smear. Also, adhesive is bound to show through. To combat these problems, I heat embossed my sentiment with clear EP after stamping to set it. I held my vellum in place with 2 more fun glitter brads. The green panel of the card was stamped with some single clouds from my Unity set. I added my other die cut clouds for effect. Other than that, just a couple mats, and Voila! ;) I hope you like it:) I'm pretty sure my Mom will.

Hide the Eggs! (TCPTUES147)

Hi all! here is the last Easter card I'll make for this set of 4 with my TCP Easter stamps, you can see the other 3 at the post below this one. This card is being submitted for TCP Tuesday, the colors are:

Here is the link to the TCP blog so you can play too! So, my chicken card.... I used these yummy patterned papers from America Crafts, my only regret with the way the card turned out is that not much of the teal in the papers is actually showing, there is quite a lot of it in these papers, I promise! Ok, so I matted my card front with 2 of the papers and stitched it into place with my sewing machine. Then I created that accent on the left side with my fave scallop punch, some ribbon, some different patterned paper and some fancy upholstered brads, kinda fun, huh? I die cut some more of the pink patterned paper as a mat for the chicken piece which I colored with Copics and die cut last night. My final touch was to stamp the sentiment on a scrap of the patterned paper & punch it out. I accented it with some scalloped gems from the My Mind's Eye gem pack I got a few weeks ago.

TCP Easter Cards

Hi all! I just wanted to share some fun Easter cards I made last night with my Cat's Pajamas stamps. Here is where you can see the whole set. I actually bought this set last fall, I have no clue why I bought it 6 mos. BEFORE Easter, except that it was so darn cute! I was able to use the chicken stamp for a birthday card, you can see that here.

I started out last night thinking that I just wanted to color these and die cut, and that I would leave the actual card-making for today. But once I got started, I couldn't stop, these images are so much fun to play with! There are many similar elements on these 3 cards. You can see once I did one, the other two were pretty easy, because I just kept my ideas much in the same vein and used similar products. Buttons, gems, Spellbinders dies, herringbone ribbons and patterned papers all became major players on these cards. I hope you like them!

For this first card, I used a cool K and Company paper with a metallic accent in it. I thought these colors were Easter-y and then I pulled out the purple and turquoise in the ribbon and tulip 3D accents. I think this sentiment is my favorite in the whole set! :)

I love this next card, even though pink isn't normally my thing;) I think this  stamp is hysterical and I was able to pull out this pretty SU! DSP "Razzleberry Lemonade." That sparkly flower button, I have been looking for the perfect project for it, for ages! I think this is a good fit. For the sentiment accent, I did the ribbon ruffle only on the top half to go with the idea of the "bonnet." 

For this final card, I used 2 bows on their sides to help "frame" the image. This card has more earthy colors and a softer feel, though I think the orange buttons help it "pop."

Hey there! Here is my submission for this week's Wednesday Stamp Club over at My Favorite Things! I have to admit, I was a little stumped when I saw this sketch, because I wanted to use MFT stamps, but only have a few sets & I wasn't exactly sure of which one to use for this sketch, which clearly called for a sentiment stamp. Finally I decided on this one, figuring the kite accent would be a good fit for this stamp. MFT actually sells a kite shaped die, you can see it here. I don't have that die, though, so I cut the kite off of some patterned paper from a retired SU! hostess set, "Hand Drawn DSP/Bundle." I made the kite tail from some MORE of that baker's twine from Crate and Barrel (don't worry, I'll let ya know if I ever use up all 2300 feet! lol;)  I used a combination of patterned papers from that pack and "Greenhouse Gala DSP." I WAS able to use my MFT cloud die on this though. I LOVE this sentiment. My kids have kept me smiling through much stress lately, and remind me that life is short & life is for living. Don't kids have a marvelous ability to help you keep perspective? I think they do! :) I hope you like my card, I would love to increase my followers to 60 by my blog anniversary in May, so follow if you can!

Lifesaver Card (TCPTUES 146)

I'm baaaack..... :) Here is my take on the challenge this week at Dancing In Pajamas. AKA The Cat's Pajamas blog. I actually dusted off some old techniques for this one. I used to make these Lifesavers cards ALOT "back in the day." They are fun way to say thanks & share a little sugar too. The other thing that is OLD for this one is my "long card." I have made these for YEARS, with the same dimensions always. I will list the dimensions below for you, so you can try too! They fit into a legal size envelope. I've always used the left side to tie on something fun. For teacher cards, I'll often use a short pencil, like I did on this "short" card here. You can also use a fancy stickpin, big bow, or other embellishment. Here is an old life saver card I made for a stamp club project, sorry the pic is so bad.

So, my whale, I cut out the pieces for my card (the color scheme came from the roll of lifesavers). I punched two green strips with the large scallop punch for the "waves." and adhered them down in an offset way. I stamped my whale twice, once on red polka dot paper and once on Razzleberry polka dot paper. I cut the whole whale out of the Razzleberry, including his hat. I ONLY cut the hat off the red and adhered it to the Razzleberry one. I created my "porthole" by using my circle cutter to cut a ring and then added red gems to it. I nestled the whale down in the waves, attached him and adhered the porthole.  Then I attached my roll of lifesavers with glue dots and then tied it into place with some baker's twine. I printed my "lifesaver" sentiment on the computer & punched it out. Finally, I stamped the "whale of a friend" sentiment on the right side of the card. I hope you like it! I thought the "lifesaver" theme went well with the nautical stamps:)

Sunshine (MOJO 178)

Hi all! BEAUTIFUL day in the Rocky Mountain region today. Simply PERFECT and lovely. The sun is helping pull me out of my funk and I decided I needed to pull out this stamp from Verve. I love how many beautiful Bible verse stamps they have over there. This verse reminds me that God will protect all of us, no matter how exposed or hurt we may feel. I wanted to incorporate this verse into the sketch challenge they are doing this week at Mojo Monday, aaaaaand.... I flipped it! I know, I know, again! I guess I am just a papercrafting rebel this month;) I think I have flipped every sketch I've tried as of late! I decided to make the circle into a sun since I wasn't using any other stamps on this card. I cut my circle out and adhered punched hearts to the backside to make the sun's "rays." Other than that, pretty self-explanatory card. I hope you like it, I know I really feel that this Mojo Monday sketch & the stamp did give me some "mojo" today. :)

CQC #72/ Cookies!

Hi all! Here's my page for this week's colourQ challenge!!! Check it out, the colors are: Not Quite Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Tangerine Tango, Baja Breeze, Kraft and White. I had these pictures from our last night in WDW last fall. The hotel had a cookie buffet for kids that night and chefs hats and aprons for the kids to wear while they were decorating their cookies. I used the stamps I won from my last prize package at spottedcanary.com. Here is "Sweet Tooth" if you want to see the whole set. I used a masking technique and an oval punch to create the plateful of cookies by the title. I used a Cricut cartridge to cut the title and when it came out, the cut was not clean. I wanted to save the cut if possible and started to think about adding some texture, but my embossing folders were too small to fit the large title. THEN I had the idea to use my old-school paper crimper. It ended up looking great:) I used some punches and another stamp to create my embellishments.

Altered jewelry tin banner

Hi guys, I just wanted to quickly share this project I made by repurposing some adorable jewelry tins I had laying around from Brighton. I think I mentioned the other day that my DH gave me some jewelry from there for V-day. I got this adorable necklace and a lovely bracelet. I was pretty touched as my hubby isn't usually a "gift" guy. :) 

Whenever you buy jewelry at this store it comes in these darling tins instead of boxes, I have bought a few other items there in the past, so I had 4 different tins to choose from. I made the banner by punching holes in the tops of the heart tins with my crop-o-dile and threading ribbon through. The orange and blue hearts are the back sides of the tins, where the patterned ones are the tin fronts. All I did after that was embellish them with an "I **heart** u!" sentiment I cut on the Cricut, some punched hearts and some gems. I hope you like my project! :)

Ev's Valentine (MFTWSC6)

Hi guys, one more card for tonight and then I am going to sleep. I made Ev's (his nickname is  "monster beast";) Valentine tonight with the sketch over at My Favorite Things. I flipped it again, I did that last week at this challenge too. Not quite sure why I am in such a horizontal card mood as of late..... 

Ok, my card, I had this idea to make his "scales" out of pleated ribbon, but went I went to try and execute it, it didn't go so well... So what I ended up doing was leaving the "scales" on there and adding the pleated ribbon behind them. I made the costume in a pinkish color for V-day. The shaped piece behind him is a sticker from OA. I paper pieced his costume and then colored in his face and the scales with Copics.

TCPTUES 145/ Aqua and Brown PJ Bear

Hi all! Sooooo glad to be back to my studio tonight! This week was truly INSANE, even crazier than usual! You knew about my play and the first part of the week was spent prepping for that and my son's Destination ImagiNation tournament was today, so prep for that as well. Then there was the science fair, the birthdays of 2 friends, my MIL and my sweet Gramma. Then yesterday while picking up some gifts for said birthdays at the mall, I got into a car accident. I'm glad to say it was not my fault, and neither Ev or I were hurt, but my car is pretty messed up :( THEN my hubby (who has been a ROCK these last few weeks, I just gotta say....) & I had a date last night to celebrate V-Day. Lovely evening, wonderful restaurant, and he gave me a pretty bracelet and necklace from Brighton, truly one of my fave stores. Such a great time & I was just starting to finally relax.... UNTIL we come out to a FLAT TIRE on HIS car! Honestly, I think it's quite possible I should never leave the house again. So, to make a short story long (sorry about that) I am a VERY VERY happy girl to be in my cozy warm house, not driving anywhere and having fun with my NEW stamps! (see previous post)

Ok, enough ranting, isn't PJ the CUTEST??? :) I think I am going to love this set! I colored him with two shades of brown Copic and paper pieced his tummy. I stamped his coffee cup and colored it & attached it to his hand. I used a lot of scraps on this card, so sorry, the only manufacturer i really know is for the woodgrain papers. Then I wrapped some felt ribbon around the card in two places. For the sentiment I used my REALLY old tag punch and used glue dots around the edges of the tag to adhere some buttons from my random jar. :) This card is for TCPTUES145.

One more K & Co valentine for Spotted Canary hearts challenge

Hi all! here is another quick Valentine I made for the "hearts" challenge over at Spotted Canary! that link will take you right to the thread if you want to participate, you know I am a fan of the site and their challenges:) This card was really simple, I used some of the flowered Martha Stewart Crafts paper I won in challenge over there in December:) I just layered that up with some solid pink on a red card base. Then I added one of the heart shaped doilies that I picked up in the dollar spot at Target. The heart punch I have was just about a perfect fit to layer on the solid center of the doily. The final layer before the ribbon embellishment was one of those K and Company vintage valentine die cuts. I am IN LOVE with those die cuts! They are so cute, and even though I have used a TON already, I still have more than enough to make a bunch more Valentines next year:) 

The ribbon embellishment was actually threaded through the crease in the card. I just punched a hole in the fold and threaded it right through. After tying the ribbon, I added some scraps of crochet trim and tied them to my ribbon with some of my baker's twine. the final touch was a heart pin.

CQC #71/Cameo Challenge for Moxie Fab World

Hey all, it's Tuesday, and that means time for another awesome color challenge over at colourQ!!! Please go check out the FABULOUS samples my DT buds have for you today. I have to admit I was almost baffled when I saw these colors, as I've said before, pale pink is not my thing! But then I had the idea to incorporate these colors with the Cameo Challenge over at Moxie Fab World !!! We are on (yet another....) snow day, so I had some time. 

In keeping with the "cameo" idea, I wanted my main panel on this to be an oval shape. Behind the oval is a Kraft card base that has been scored around the edges, there is also the negative frame from a Top Note die cut in Pretty In Pink. I have to admit, that was the ONLY piece I have in Pretty In Pink, so I HAD to use it! ;) I dry embossed the frame in my Cuttlebug and then layered a strip of Kraft patterned paper on a strip of Pink Pirouette. The oval panel is Blushing Bride, which is probably my fave color of these 3 pinks. It has a orangey quality to it, which I like. for the image of the cameo I was in a bit of a pickle. I didn't have any die cut cartridges with a profile or a silhouette of a lady on them. Then I started thinking how cameos were not always profiles or silhouettes of PEOPLE. Actually, insects have been popular motifs on jewelry etc. for hundreds of years. So, the bee seemed a good fit for the card. Here is a cool sample of a cameo look bee necklace I found on etsy! :) The final detail on this card was this cool flower from Martha Stewart Crafts:)

Party Penguin (1 more for TCP TUES)

.....the more and more and more it snows, where it stops nobody knows.......

Hey there, what a weekend! I have been working on all the last minute things for my play and I am pleased to say I have been VERY productive. It has been snowing all weekend, and that means I have been home all weekend. So, productivity abounds & that means I got to make another card for this week's TCPTUES 144. I am just CRAZY about this sketch, it's sooooo good! :) I had these fun balloon stickers & thought I could use them in conjunction with this stamp. I had to cut them down a little, but I think they still look pretty cool. I stamped my penguin down and stamped 2 more balloons, so he was holding 3 instead of one. Then I colored the balloons and the penguin and I cut down my balloon stickers to layer on top of the colored balloons. The stickers only came in these 3 colors so that, and the colors I used on the penguin gave me the jumping off place for my color scheme. The colors are: Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Brilliant Blue, and Old Olive. I used some different border stickers for the strong vertical lines along the right side of the card. When it came to the sentiment, I highlighted the "29th" by stamping it in red, cutting it out, and layering it on top of the sentiment.
