Well, hello, hello! I wanted to show you something that's a bit of a departure today! I took this online class on the Spotted Canary! Here is the link to sign up for the Fashionable Felt class! In one of the prizes I won from there, I had received some felt flowers, a sheet of wool felt, and some wool roving. Once I took that online class (it's a free class! Consists of 4 videos, each around 8 minutes long.) I knew how to use all my new toys!
This first project is my hat. You might remember me talking about how the trim fell off & I subsequently used it on a card here. So I thought this would be a great accent to jazz it up a little! The orange flower was premade and I added the blue details to the petals with the roving. I think it turned out cute! :)
For these bobby pins, I cut out some of the sheet felt with my Cuttlebug. You can do this with any press style die-cut machine. I have cut craft felt on it a lot, but was glad to find it cut this wool felt too, since it's much thicker than craft felt. The only tip with cutting fabric or felt, is to add a piece of scrap cardstock or computer paper underneath the felt. I used a Cuttlebug die here, so the "sandwich" was (bottom to top) A plate, B plate, paper, felt, die, B plate. Then I use the roving to add detail to the flowers in blue and purple. Finally, I hot glued these little guys to bobby pins. I think this would be super cute in the winter with a turtleneck, don't you? :)
My last flower I turned into a pin. I thought this would be cute on this denim jacket or a winter coat. Could be a fun way to brighten up all the blacks and grays I tend to wear in the winter.... Again, like the hat, this was a large premade flower and I dressed up the petals by felting the roving onto it.
Well that's it for me! Have a stellar day!

DUST IT OFF!: Dress up your old clothes and damaged accessories with some fun felt flowers!
So I recently bought these very plain, but incredibly comfortable flip flops from Okabashi. I've been thinking they need some personality.
ReplyDeleteThese felt flowers are it!
Thanks for the great idea!
