Hi there, everyone. Here is my page for the AWESOME color combo over at colourQ this week! Check it out, the colors are Poppy Parade, Cameo Coral, Blushing Bride, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla. I think these colors are YUMMY, but I got a little nervous when I started thinking of doing a scrapbook page with them. Having 3 boys, I can't tell you the last time, I made a pink scrapbook page! I went through 3 BOXES of photos, trying to find the right pictures, nothing was right.
Then while scanning through my photos on my computer, I came across this photo. This is my grandparents wedding photo. They were married in 1941. The story goes that my grandmother took the train from her home in Des Moines, IA to Tampa, FLA where my grandfather was stationed. He had, of course, asked her parents for her hand, and the agreement was that they would marry the day she arrived, as not to tarnish her reputation. They went to the church on the army post, where the minister was waiting, and when he went to open the chapel, it was locked. They ended up taking their wedding vows in the Sunday School room. My grandfather was off to war, and my grandma rented a screened in porch! No really, she did. She lived on the porch, took her meals in the house with the family who owned it, and most of her furniture was made from orange crates. That was their beginning.
They were (well, my grandma still IS) wonderful people. I always called them my "extra" parents, because they lived a block away while I was growing up. My grandma took care of us before and after school. My grandfather "Papa" taught me how to ride a bike, drive a car, and gave me away at my wedding. We were very close. He passed away in 1998.
It's kind of cool that this happens to be the week this will be featured on the colourQ blog this week. Beause, this week would have been their 70th (whoa, is that right? I guess it is...) wedding anniversary.
So, there's a real love story for you as we approach Valentine's Day:)
Have a wonderful day! -Noelle
