Old Sacramento scrapbook layout (CQC#84)

Hey all! SOOOO very sorry this post is so late! My son broke his arm on Sunday night, then my hubby worked major overtime last night and today was his birthday! So, I've been feeling a wee bit like a chicken with my head cut off since Sunday, ACK! Had a wonderful Mother's Day, though:) Probably the best ever until Ian broke his arm at 7pm that night. ANYWAY, time for another challenge at colourQ! I was so excited when I saw these colors, because I like them all and I love the combo of the four together. This is the main scheme in my family room I love it so much! I made a 2 page scrapbook layout with the colors:

I had no stickers that would work for this day, so I started to focus on the textures and the feel of the day. Old Sacramento (or "Old Sac" as it is often called...) is a very fun area with many of the original cobblestone streets and old buildings preserved. It is situated on the bank of a river and we actually ate lunch on a riverboat (I know, total tourist trap, but, hey, we WERE tourists! ;) So there was lots of crumbling bricks, lots of water, a boat, and lots of trees...... ok, now you know my jumping off point. I used a green background to mimic the feel of trees.  I created the title with some fun DP and a Bazzill yellow cardstock with some shimmer to it, though you can't see the shimmer here. I ran some Kraft cardstock through my embossing machine with a crumbling brick looking embossing folder. I cut it into 2 pieces and sponged some brown ink on. Those 2 pieces went onto the lower corners of my layout. Then I created some waves with my sewing machine along the bottom of the layout. I made a boat with some scraps and a toothpick.
I made the title and date with some sticker letters and a few upholstered brads and a button. There is a really OLD tag on the first page that I stamped a sentiment down about family. I also tried to sort of "weave" my journaling around the photos to give it an organic, natural feel....

On the second page, I made some accents from some VERY old stamp shaped brads I had in my stash. These brads are "blank" in the center so you can create your own stamp. I cut some of my DP to fit the centers and coated them in dimensional adhesive. It was a simple accent that pulled the page together really well, I think. Here's a closeup:
And here's a few other detail shots for ya...

I hope you are having a wonderful week so far, I'll be back SOON with some more fun challenges :) Make sure and go over to colourQ and check out all the awesome samples my DT buds have for you. Have a stellar day!

  1. Love both layouts, Noelle! those are great pictures and you showed a lot of imagination, the colors were not my favorite combo. My stamp was OK but the rest of my card just lacked something, but then I had a long Mother's Day.

Your comments make my day! :) I've found it's easiest for me to return comments 1-2 times per week, so it might be a few days, but I WILL get over to your blogs and see what awesome things you've been up to. Thanks SO MUCH for popping by, blog friends!
